My name is Shasta Cole. I am an AmeriCorps member serving at Breakthrough Urban Ministries on the west side of Chicago. I work as an after school program coordinator with youth K-8. When I was asked to write a story about my service year, I was immediately hit with many different memories of working with my children over the past year. It is really hard to put down in words the many things I’ve learned and experienced in just one year.

WINCHESTER, Va.  – The Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) announced today the accreditation of TechMission of Dorchester, MA, a Christian organization committed to supporting Christian organizations in using technology to transform vulnerable communities.

ChristianVolunteering.org has launched a campaign and website to equip churches for national volunteer month this April and volunteer week on April 27-May 3. The campaign site provides a searchable directory of nearly 3,000 volunteer opportunities in 1,800 organizations to equip churches to volunteer in their communities.

TechMission Safe Families Program has released free software to protect children from pornography and other dangers by blocking them from accessing objectionable material on the Internet.

The vision of TechMission's UrbanMinistry.org is to help promote social justice and end that segregation by using Web 2.0 technology to connect the urban and suburban church worlds.


In 2008 TechMission will…

  • Provide over 2,500 volunteers and give $3 million in resources to over 2,500 organizations serving over 500,000 individuals in low-income communities
  • Provide 40 Full-Time Interns to over 20 Ministries Serving At-Risk Youth through TechMission Corps
  • Serve over 1 million visitors through our websites through TechMission Online Services
  • Train 200 students through City Vision College classes on serving under-resourced communities
